Sophia Kagan 

NSW Anti-Slavery Commission 

Sophia Kagan is the Principal Policy Adviser on Labour Migration with the Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner and co-author of the Be Our Guests: Addressing urgent modern slavery risks for temporary migrant workers in regional and rural New South Wales tabled in the NSW Parliament on 18 September 2024. She previously worked for 12 years with the International Labour Organisation in China, the Pacific and the Middle East, including as a Chief Technical Adviser of an interregional labour migration program.

Sophia will present findings from the Commission’s recent report, which highlights concerning trends in agriculture, horticulture, and meat processing industries. 

Carla Chung

ACRATH

Carla Chung is a dedicated Timorese Community Human Rights Activist with extensive experience advocating for the rights of migrant workers. Carla previously worked with the United Workers Union (UWU) and is currently with ACRATH (Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans), where she supports and advocates for PALM scheme workers.

Since 2017, she has been deeply involved with the PALM scheme industry, and has been involved in addressing the challenges faced by temporary migrant workers and empowering them to understand their rights and welfare.
